Basic Procedure Return to Top
  1. To find articles in journals, use one of the electronic databases or one of the print indexes to search by author, title, or subject. A listing of both electronic databases and print indexes is provided below.
  2. Some of the electronic databases may provide the article in full-text. In that case, simply follow the procedure for the database to print out the article.
  3. If the article is not available in full-text from the database, search in the ACORN catalog for the journal (NOT the article) by using "PERIODICAL TITLE begins with" to see if the journal is available in the library. Be sure to check the holdings for the specific issue in which the article is located.
  4. Some journal issues may be available in full-text through the ACORN catalog. In that case, you can click on the Findit@VU button to get access to the journal in full-text from the catalog record.
  5. If the journal issue is not available in full-text but the journal is in the library, check the location and call number for the journal and retrieve the issue from the shelf.
  6. If the journal is not available in the library you may be able to obtain the article through Interlibrary Loan (ILL).
